GRAPPLING

Our grappling classes span many different disciplines

At the Fight For Tomorrow Academy, we believe that grappling in its purest form should not be taught only or even primarily for sport specific purposes. We combine parts of all grappling arts to each class that is taught. While each of these have different goals and rulesets in their sport specific competition, we encourage all of our students to first ensure they have a well rounded, practical grasp on the fundamentals of all grappling disciplines. We teach techniques and skillsets that are useful in competition but focus most importantly on self defense situations, as the martial arts were created to do. While we encourage competition for those who are interested as they progress, the martial arts should be a way of life long before they are done for sport.

  • Jujutsu

    • Also known as jiu-jitsu and ju-jitsu, is a family of Japanese martial arts and a system of close combat (unarmed or with a minor weapon) that can be used in a defensive or offensive manner to kill or subdue one or more weaponless or armed and armored opponents.

  • Wrestling

    • Wrestling is a combat sport involving techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds. Wrestling comes in different forms such as folkstyle, freestyle, Greco-Roman, catch, and others. There are a wide range of styles with varying rules, with both traditional historic and modern styles. Wrestling techniques have been incorporated into other martial arts as well as military hand-to-hand combat systems.

  • Judo

    • Judo ("gentle way") is a modern Japanese martial art, a system of unarmed combat, and now primarily a sport. Judo is not only a training of body and mind, but also a way of human formation. Judo was created in 1882 by Jigoro Kano (1860–1938) He studied old jujutsu, which is martial arts of Samurai, but he decided to eliminate "the most dangerous techniques"  and created new "Kano Jiu-Jitsu", which is now widely known as Judo. The ultimate goal of all judo practitioners is "Seiryoku-Zenyo and Jita-Kyoei”

      • Seiryoku-Zenyo: maximum efficient use of energy

      • Jita-Kyoei: principle of mutual welfare and benefit

  • Sambo

    • Sport sambo or sambo wrestling is stylistically similar to old-time judo, and in a lot of ways influenced by it, but with some differences in rules, protocol, and uniform. Sambo allows various types of leg locks like old Judo before the ban of the Ashi Garami techniques, while not allowing chokeholds. It also focuses on throwing, groundwork, and submissions, with very few restrictions on gripping and holds.

    • Combat sambo is utilized and developed for the military, combat sambo resembles modern mixed martial arts, including forms of striking and grappling. Combat sambo allows regular punches, kicks, elbows, and knees, as well as soccer kicks, headbutts and groin strikes, in addition to throws, holds, chokes and locks, except for a standing or flying wristbar.
