Join us on Saturday, August 15th for the first Men’s Open!

This is our first open tournament for men, welcoming competitors of all colored belt levels (blue through black).

The tournament will use a group-stage round robin format to maximize mat time. Each weight class will be capped at 8 competitors, with up to two groups of four. The winner of each group will advance to the finals to compete for the division championship.

Each division champion will receive a custom Path Submission rashguard and a championship medal.

This is an open-level tournament, with all colored belts competing together. We'll build the groups to create the most balanced matchups possible while ensuring everyone gets multiple matches.

Location: 739 N. Easton Road, Doylestown, PA 18902

Parking: There is plenty of parking available in the lot.

Fee: Fee to participate is $65 and must be paid at time of registration on Smoothcomp.  Spectator fee is $10 paid at the door via cash or Venmo.

Weigh-ins: 9:30 - 10:30a the day of the event.

Competition: Rounds start at 11a.

Match Length

  • 6-minute matches and will be decided via points or submission. 

Prohibited moves

  • All submissions except z lock are allowed.

  • No slams.

  • No jumping guard.

  • Guard must be released if opponent is able to stand.

  • Submissions must be defended without slams.

  • No scissor takedowns. 

Scoring

  • Take down: 1 point

    • A take down will be given to the person who is in top position and in control after going from standing position to the ground. If you are taken down and get back to your feet, 1 point will be awarded once grips are broken and neutral position is achieved. Guard pull does not count as a takedown.  All guard pulls must be done with connection and lead directly to an attack. No jumping guard allowed.

  • Passing to any variation of side control: 1 point

    • Side control includes north south. Requires 3 second pin to score.

  • Mount: 1 point

    • Requires 3 second pin to score.

  • Reversal from bottom: 1 point

    • Any change in position from bottom to top will result in one point to the competitor who ends up on top after 3 seconds of control time. The only exception to this rule would be if a submission is locked in from top (armbar / top triangle), and bottom is intentionally taken by attacking competitor to attempt a finish.

  • Sweeping from bottom directly to mount: 2 points

    • 1 point for the sweep, 1 point for mount after a 3 second pin.

  • 3 seconds control from the back: 1 point

    • This includes if the bottom player turtles to avoid a pin or if the top person spins behind (i.e. snap down or a defended take down attempt). Hooks are not needed to score from the back.

  • Back with hooks: 1 additional point

    • A fully locked body triangle will be counted as a score-able control position

  • There are no advantages

Decision

Winners of bracket will be determined based off of win loss record. In the event of  within each bracket in the event of an even win loss record, the winner of the match up between the top two will be declared the winner of the bracket.

  1. If win loss record is even, The tie breaker will be whomever won the match between the two with the tied records

  2. In the event of more than a two way tie, Method of victory will be weighed in in the following way:

    • Loss: 0 points

    • Draw: 1 point

    • Win in OT: 2 points

    • Win on points: 3 points 

    • Win by submission: 4 points
